I was talking with my mom a couple days ago about the fact that we live so far away from each other, her main concern is that she does not want me to feel alone. I did a run through the time I lived at home, and the almost 20 years that I have lived in Alaska, and I am very lucky to say that through all the ups and downs of life I have never felt alone.
A big part of it is that I have a loving family, but I have to recognize that we live in a time where technology connects us, through it and social media, I have found incredible people, some of them are now my closest friends. My friend Jamie, who I met online, says that if your internet friends do not become your real friends, you're doing it wrong.
We can vilify the internet all we want, but it has largely been my experience that things are what we make of them, and I intend to do good, and to do it well, and today I would like to introduce you to someone I have never met in real life, but we have been following each other, and today she could use our help.
Rachel lives in Sitka with her husband Zach and his brother Peter. She is a kind human with impecable taste, and she blogs at The Northern Current. Rachel's husband suffered a very serious accident that caused him to be medivacked from Sitka to Anchorage to have pelvis surgery that will put him in a wheel chair for 10 weeks. Fortunately his medical expenses are covered, but he is the only source of income for their home. I am linking to a Go Fund Me set up to cover their monthly expenses, if you can help, please click HERE.
If you are my friend, or my internet friend, thank you, because of you I have never felt alone. Let's show Rachel what we can do together.
