Tiny Alaskan's with Style: Oma+Jo and a giveaway! {closed}

As  September approached this year and I started thinking of getting warm clothing for Benjamin, I stumbled upon {{Oma+Jo}} and immediately fell in love with their darling designs and the fact that they are local.

When I posted this picture of Ben wearing his trapper hat and mittens, I got so many 'where did you get that?' questions that I decided to contact Oma+Jo so you guys can meet them. Here's a bit about them:

I (jo) am a graduate student at UAA working on my master's in biology - and making baby clothes on the side, what!?
Oma, which means grandma in german is Monika (my mom and new grandma to my sister's baby Anika) She has been a local artist for many years and has since, shall we say, "retired" from her previous craft to return to sewing.

We are best friends. Something that I don't think a lot of people can say about a parent - which makes us both very lucky! We are having so much fun together creating gear for mom's to share with their little babes! It is important to both of us to do what we love and as long as we're having fun doing this, why not share not with others?
When my sister's little girl, Anika was born - we got to brainstorming all the cute things we could sew for her. I started following baby clothing shops and designers on instagram and was inspired by all the darling things out there! When did baby clothes become so trendy with such sophisticated colors? Finally we've said no to pastels!! While more and more niches are being filled in the infant world - it is still hard to find hats and mittens that will keep babies truly warm...and so was born oma+jo.

My sister and I grew up wearing the same trapper hats made and sold by my mom decades ago, that we have brought back to life for Anika. They were so adorable on Anika that we decided to start a little shop on etsy!

We hope Alaskan mom's and kids will love our gear because it inspires adventures! Playing outside is an important part of growing up - especially in Alaska - and having the right gear makes all the difference! And what better way to bundle up little ones than in local handmade items!
How awesome are these ladies?! They really had me at "no to pastels!!". I am so excited to get our babes' accessories right here, handmade in Alaska. On that note, since it is the season of giving, Oma+Jo is offering one lucky reader $25 credit towards anything in their shop!

To enter to win visit their shop by clicking {{here}} then leave a comment below letting us know what your favorite item is. The giveaway will close 1 week from today, the winner will be chosen at random and contacted directly.

Thank you Oma+Jo for stopping by Living Alaska, and good luck to those of you entering the giveaway!
